    Pumpkins

    Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Sunday was a gorgeous fall day here, so we took the kids to a local pumpkin farm to pick out some pumpkins to carve. We have never been to Sekapp's before, but will be adding it to our fall line-up of fun things to do. They had a straw maze for little kids and a corn maze for bigger kids along with a bunch of great photo ops. Benjamin picked out "a beauty" and we helped Lucy find a pumpkin that was just her size. We skipped the fancy pumpkin patterns this year for some standard jack-o-lantern faces. Hopefully they last until Halloween next week!

Since Benjamin had Thursday and Friday off of school, I took both kids to Lark Toys for a fun day. My friend from college, Miranda, and her husband own the awesome store with her parents, so not only is it a fun day out for the kids, but also a chance for me to see an old friend!

    Fall Fun

Our backyard is full of newly fallen leaves.  I made an attempt at raking them up, but the kids had their way and we ended up just throwing them around and jumping in piles - much more fun than raking anyway!

    What I learned...

    Wednesday, October 03, 2012

The instructor of the photography workshop asked all of her past students to put together a little statement about what we learned in the workshop and why it would be beneficial for others to take the class. I could have listed a million reasons, but I thought this one was the most appropriate for other photographers:

Lucy's Second Birthday Party - cupcakes

Our sweet little Lucy turned 2 yesterday and we celebrated with a family party on Saturday and a fun day out on her actual birthday.

Lucy's Second Birthday Party - no guilt there!

The party theme was Woodland Gnomes. I made some toadstool cupcakes, "acorns," and a bunch of snack foods ("sticks" and hummus, breaded mushrooms, apples and caramel, etc) to fit the theme. We had amazing fall weather and enjoyed time with everyone in the backyard.

Yesterday I picked the kids up from daycare/school and asked Lucy what she'd like to do for the afternoon. She chose "bookstore," so we went to Barnes and Noble for a little reading and Thomas-the-Train-set-playing.

Then we walked over to the mall's little play area where the kids had fun running around for a while.

We finished the day off with a trip to McDonald's for ice cream.
